Welcome!

Hi! Welcome to my blog! I guess I blog now. Before I start writing about the projects I work on I thought I’d write a little bit about myself, some of my first quilting projects, and why I decided to start a quilting business.

I’ll start by saying that just a few years ago, I never would have thought I’d start a business quilting for others. I’m a chef by trade and have worked in kitchens for most of my adult life. This craft came into my life quite randomly as something I thought would just be a one time project to give me something to do besides chase a two-year-old and an infant around, but has ended up being something that has stuck with me like nothing has ever before.

I started quilting in 2017 after my second child was born. For some reason I had gotten into drawing mandalas when I was sitting around and thought it’d be cool to use another type of media, like fabric, to make them, so of course I thought of quilting. My first project was this weird little 16” carpenter star block I made from whatever I had laying around. This helped me learn the general vocabulary and process of quilting and using patterns.

After that I decided to go for a full-sized quilt, so I decided to make a disappearing nine patch baby quilt for my niece who was about to be born. After I made this, I knew I was HOOKED! I wasn’t quite ready to delve into free motion quilting at the time, so I stuck with stitching in the ditch.

By this time, I had been doing more research on free motion quilting and was completely enthralled in the idea of making beautiful designs with thread! Of course, I’ve never done it before, so I had no idea what I was doing. I made my daughter a quick little baby quilt and decided to try my hand at free motion classic stippling and it came out well and I needed to do more!

Having two small kids at the time took up most of my time, of course, so I ended up using the free time I did have to make mini quilts or skip piecing all together to make mini whole cloth quilts to practice my free motion skills. From then on, I became a little…obsessed.

I got a job at my local quilt shop, QuiltersHQ, doing their computerized edge to edge quilting services for the shop’s customers and still do it to this day! This job has given me the opportunity to learn so much about quilting as a craft and a business. From here I was able to get insight on how to efficiently run a quilting operation, learn about what customers generally want and expect, and common customer service practices in this industry. Working here is also what led to me to get my sweet baby longarm, and here I am today!

I’m beyond excited to be quilting for others. Quilting can be such a solitary craft, and while that’s a part of the appeal to me as a hobby, it has been an absolute pleasure to meet other quilt-minded people and to learn their stories. Some people make quilts for fun, some to celebrate new a life or remember a life passed. To others it’s a symbol of life changing milestones or a way to honor generations of their family history. Whatever the story, I’m so honored to be part of it. Thanks for reading!
